My 101 in 1001
Inspired by a friend’s list, I learned that this 101-in-1001 List is actually a spreading phenomenon. The idea is simply to post a list of 101 clearly-defined goals that one then has 1001 days with which to complete. The act of publishing the list is a motivation against procrastination.

Do another complete back-up of my laptop (it’s been way too long already).- Move up in ranking to union Location Manager (already eligible).
- Finish writing a full first draft of my feature film script.
- Finish the final draft of the aforementioned feature film script.

- Develop www.scotttrimble.com to show and link to all the other Scott Trimbles of the world.
- Get a new tattoo or expand the one that I already have.
Go on another big shopping spree to improve my wardrobe selection.- Learn how to iron clothes and then iron all of them that need it.
- Finish the 8mm-to-DVD video conversion project.
- Next, convert the old VHS-C and VHS videotapes to digital as well.
- Do the same thing with old audiotape recordings.
- Finish organizing my old 35mm photographs and negatives.
- Transfer or retype as much data from my old Apple IIe files as I can still retrieve.
- Finish designing the large family tree print that includes photos of all close relatives.
- Take an extension course or a community college class in Introduction to German.
- Plan something special for my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary.
- Make another attempt at researching William Angus McDonald (approx. 1840-1897).
- At least start the long process of compiling the writings of Sinclair & Frances Trimble.
Create a system to organize the boxes and boxes of unorganized family history.Obtain copies of silent films written by Charles Darnton and learn more about his career.- Visit the town of Troy, North Carolina, where the Suggs family was from.
- Visit the last of the 50 states (only 4 more remaining!).
- Get a European rail pass and travel around the continent.
- Travel to at least one of the following: Japan, Southeast Asia, India, Africa, Australia, or South America.
- Go skiing again. Anywhere.
- Drive to Tijuana, Mexico. Maybe even further south down through Baja California.
Go to Hawaii and visit Scott Cobb on the set of Lost in Honolulu.- Go see the Spruce Goose in McMinnville, Oregon. I should rewatch The Aviator too.
- Go ice-skating in Central Park, New York City, with a girlfriend.
Go again to see Penn & Teller’s show in Las Vegas.- Explore either Carlsbad Caverns (New Mexico) or Mammoth Caves (Kentucky).
- Ride the Amtrak out of Union Station to…? And come back again, of course. Eventually.
- Walk the entire length of the Santa Monica Boulevard stretch of Route 66.
- Walk the Colorado Boulevard and Foothill Boulevard stretches of Route 66 too.
Go to the newly-renovated Griffith Observatory.- Go to the J. Paul Getty Museum.
- Go to the Los Angeles Zoo.
- Go to the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum.
Take a date to dinner at a restaurant on the Queen Mary in Long Beach.- Hike back to the Bridge to Nowhere in the mountains above Azusa.
- Scout the basement tunnels of the Subway Terminal Building.
Go on an L.A. Conservancy walking tour in Downtown Los Angeles.- Memorize the order of major Los Angeles streets.
- Go camping somewhere in Southern California for the weekend.
- Go with a date to Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, for the weekend.
Take a rock-climbing class at Boulderdash Indoor Rock-Climbing in Westlake Village.- Sneak into a private or off-limits pool and go skinny-dipping with a girl.
- Explore my North Hollywood / Burbank / Universal City / Studio City neighborhood by bicycle.
- Go on an all-day bike ride of Hollywood to Santa Monica and down the coast.
- Go to Alcatraz. Not as a prisoner, but a tourist (or location scout).
- Go to Angel Island.
- Drive up the coast with a date and stay at cousin Jill’s cabin.
- Go with friends on the long hike to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite.
Go to the top of either the Transamerica Pyramid or one of the Golden Gate Bridge towers.- Explore the abandoned Fort Mason Tunnel.
Go on a tour of Sean House’s new Oakland Film Center.- Go behind-the-scenes at Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville.
- Hike or drive to the top of Mt. Diablo in Walnut Creek.
- Eat a live Madagascar cockroach or something similar.
Try absinthe.Burn my MP3 collection to various audio DVDs for the car stereo.Drink one of those small bottle shots of tequila — but with the worm too.- Cook a turkey dinner for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
- I know the state capitals. Memorize at least most of the world capitals.
Buy a lawnmower, learn how to use it, and lay off the gardener.- Actually learn the parts of a car engine and how to work on them. After all, I am a Teamster.
Have my dad teach me how to take apart and clean a gun.- Learn how to make my dad’s famous macaroni salad.
- Learn how to make my dad’s famous spaghetti.
- Learn how to make one of my mom’s famous desert recipes.
Have my mom teach me how to properly prune and take care of my backyard rose bushes.- Start a new list of 101 in 1001 on Monday, 14 September 2009.
