Where’s George?

A couple days ago, while working on Alvin and the Chipmunks, I found in my change at the Cafe 50s in Venice, Los Angeles, one of those Where’s George? dollar bills. The idea is that you’re supposed to go to a website and log the serial number so as to chronicle its travels over time. Here is my dollar bill.

Interestingly, eight years ago, I worked as a Location Assistant on an indie movie called Where’s George? (the working title was Close Encounters), based on this exact premise. Rather than following the same main characters, it followed a dollar bill and included short segments on the various characters who received it as it changed hands. Again, interesting concept, but, unfortunately, the movie was pretty bad, so I don’t recommend seeking out any of the few existing copies!

It’s 3:45 a.m. and I’m overseeing the middle-of-the-night movie prep crews at the Gas Company Tower in Downtown L.A. I think I need another burst of caffeine to stay awake. I think I’m going to spend that dollar bill in one of the nearby vending machines....

Yesterday, while scouting for a Paramount Pictures feature film, I got a Where’s George bill in my change from a taxi driver in Woods Cross, Utah.
Back in Los Angeles again, I’ll probably spend this $5 bill on drinks in North Hollywood later tonight.
