“We’re going to Casa Bonita!”

Melanie and I had lunch today at Casa Bonita in Lakewood, Colorado. Up until a few days ago, though, I had no idea that this place was even real. I had only known it from the classic episode of South Park in which Eric Cartman was so desperate to go this “Disneyland of Mexican restaurants” that he kidnapped Butters. So, after eating enchiladas, tacos, rice, beans, and unlimited sopaipillas, I did my usual location scouting, but also shot some photos to match the animated TV show (see the pictures here). As Cartman would say, the place was awesome.

Way cool! I want to go!

Not fair, I haven’t been there!

  3. Danny Says:

Why don’t I see any poses with you, Melanie and Cartman?

  4. Scott Trimble Says:

Did you see the last row of pictures? Melanie and I are sitting in the same seat that Cartman was sitting in when he asked of the waitress, “More sopaipillas, please.” But posing for a picture of all three of us together? He wasn’t available due the current filming of season eleven of the show. :-)

My friends 12 year old grandson came out to spend time with grandma. He lives in a small town in New Mexico. I told him I wanted to take him to Casa Bonita. He was like “okay”. On the way there, I asked him if he watches South Park. (I was hoping he would say no). His eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. He started telling me about all the different shows he had seen. We were laughing and having a great time, when I asked him if he had seen the episode where Cartman wanted to go with Kyle to Casa Bonita for his birthday party. Josh was laughing about how Cartman keeps Butters in the bomb shelter, so he can go.

I asked him what the name of the restaurant was that was Cartman’s favorite restaurant of all time. He said “Casa Bonita”!

I just looked at him while he put 2 and 2 together. You have never seen a happier 12 year old! He loved every moment, especially “Black Bart’s Cave”. Southpark made his experience so much more than just going to Casa Bonita!!
