The Absinthe-Minded Investor

On Saturday evening, I got home and found in my mailbox a ten-page report from the City of Los Angeles. Long story short, the permits and variances for my guesthouse have finally been officially approved. It took sixteen months to get it all done!
This means that I can now start the actual physical renovation of the newly-legal guesthouse! Completing this major hurdle means that I can soon look forward to moving on towards other real estate investment projects.
Consequently, Jenn and I celebrated tonight. We got dinner at Sushi Dan’s in Studio City, then relaxed at my place by finally cracking open the bottle of absinthe that I’d purchased through the Czech Republic last summer, thus completing 101 item #89.
I must say, though, that the absinthe wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. Not only was the taste of anise was pretty overpowering at first, but, also, as I drank more, I just never saw Kylie Minogue flitting about my bedroom. If the rumors are true that absinthe will soon be legalized again in the U.S.A., then, really, it’s about time; there’s nothing very special about this kind of liquor.
P.S. The title of this post is a pun on The Absent-Minded Professor which, strangely enough, was the movie on which my second Hollywood movie job ever, Flubber, was based. It’s not often that I admit to having worked on Flubber (what a piece of crap, it was), but I still like the original black-and-white movie, so all is good.

Absinthe IS now legal in the US. I had it at The Green Door about three weeks ago :) However, the legal version is so low in the active wormwood ingredient thujone as to be negligible…so it’s basically just very strong alcohol.
